All the children in Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and 2 have the opportunity to enjoy Forest School here at The Manor. The frequency of the sessions provide the children with an ever-changing yet familiar and safe environment in which to learn. We go to Forest School whatever the weather and the children are encouraged to take responsibility to dress themselves according to the weather.
The experiences offered ensure that every aspect of a child's learning is supported and developed and cover all areas of the curriculum. Most importantly, Forest School is a fun place to be, where activities include: playing hide and seek, mixing in the mud kitchen, building shelters, cooking on a camp fire, pond dipping, making bird feeders and many more. The generous staff/child ratio enables children to take supported risks and to build resilience. These are skills they can take back to their learning in the classroom.
In the Summer Term, Year 5 children have the opportunity to sign up to Forest School Club. Here we explore the word around us, learn to light fires safely and use a variety of tools to produce numerous different items, including cooking sticks to toast the marshmallows! At the end of term we hold an overnight camp out where the children can put their newly learnt skills to the test and even help cook the evening meal! The club is a great chance to take time out from our busy lives and spend time outside and enjoy the wonders that nature has to offer.
